Veljko Belada

Veljko Belada, BSc in Civil Eng. was born in 1939 in Cetinje, Montenegro. He has completed high school in Titograd, and graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Belgrade, the Structural Engineering Department, in 1963.

As a civil engineer, he has been involved in the design, construction, technical control and supervision in complex and specific construction projects, such as bridges, industrial structures, high-rise buildings of various purposes and structural systems, as well as reconstruction of various structures.

He has worked as a leading engineer and/or engineer-designer, Manager of the Engineering Design Unit and Director of the Institute for Urban Planning and Design.

As a head designer he has worked on the construction of more than 40 bridges, among which the most important are: bridge “Bać 2” on Rožaje – Špiljani main road (1968), the bridge on Andrijevica – Murino main road (1977), the bridge over Zeta river on the main road Nikšić – Trebinje (1979), reconstruction of Emperor’s bridge (Carev most) in Nikšić (1994), 10 industrial structures, a large number of high-rise buildings (residential buildings, hotels, sports centers, schools, banks, children facility buildings).

As a supervisor he was in charge of the following projects: Factory for Alumina Production in Podgorica Aluminum Combine with trans-shipment facilities in Port of Bar 1970-1974, Aluminum Forging Factory in Podgorica Aluminum Combine 1984/85, the bridge over Tara river located in Đurđevića Tara 1989/90, and a bridge called “Grlo” over Morača river in 1991.

In the field of technical control, Belada has been in charge of technical documentation for several facilities within Podgorica Aluminum Combine, all facilities on Podgorica Božaj railway, “Millennium bridge” over Morača river, for general solutions for all bridges on already planned highways in Montenegro: Jadransko Jonski and highway Bar Boljare. He is a member of the Commission for technical control of the general design of all bridges located on Smokovica Mateševo section of Bar – Boljare highway.

He has received the Medal for Labor for the construction of the “Kombinat aluminijuma” (Aluminium Plant) in Podgorica, Montenegro.

Belada has been on several occasions a member of the Presidency of the Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians (SGIT) of Yugoslavia, President of the Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians of Montenegro and a member of the presidencies of many professional associations.

His research and scientific papers have been published in various proceedings from congress and scientific and professional conferences, as well as in professional and scientific magazines.

He was admitted into the membership of the Yugoslav Engineering Academy (JINA) on the 8th of June, 2000, in the first session.
