Nikola Adžić
Prof. Nikola Adžić, PhD, Scientific Advisor, born in Pluzine, Montenegro, February 20, 1938. He finished elementary school in Pluzine and high school in Prishtina and Niksic. He graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture in Sarajevo in 1962. He was awarded a Master’s degree in 1976, and in 1982 he received his PhD degree.
During his training program, Adžić was on longer study visits to several countries (France, Great Britain, USA, USSR-Russia and others) doing researches in the field of sheep breeding, goat breeding and dairy farming. He speaks Russian, French and English language.
After graduation, he worked at the Municipality of Pluzine, and from May 1970 till retirement in 2003 he worked at the Biotechnical Institute, earlier known as the Institute for Agriculture in Podgorica, first as an expert in agriculture, then as Senior adviser, and finally as an advisor in the field of scientific research on Animal Husbandry. Following his election as a Research Associate, he was elected Assistant Professor in 1983 in the subject of Animal Husbandry at the Faculty of Agriculture in Čačak. Until 2017 he was a lecturer at the Biotechnical Faculty in Podgorica..
While working at the Institute, he held the position of Deputy Head and Head of the Institute for Animal Husbandry and in the Republic Administration for Selection in the field of cattle breeding. During his career he was elected to the Governing bodies of a number of institutions and professional associations at the Municipal and Republic (Montenegro) and Federal levels (Yugoslavia). He was a member of the Senate and Chairman of the Executive Board of the University of Montenegro (two terms) as Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Biotechnical Institute.
Professor Adžić was a full member of the Serbian Academy of Engineering, Montenegrin Academy of Engineering and the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Montenegro. He was a full member of the Yugoslav Academy of Engineering (JINA) at the time of its existence – the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro. He is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Forestry of the Montenegrin Academy of Science and Arts.
Scientific research and Engineering Works:
Adžić has been engaged both in scientific research and Engineering work during his career. That work was very extensive and thematically diverse. It is most related to cattle and dairy farming, and partly to tourism and the problems of preserving and protecting the human environment and genetic resources of cattle in Montenegro. While working at the Agricultural-Biotechnical Institute, he has completed 25 complex multi-year inter-disciplinary scientific research projects. He was a Head of research in 15 of them.
The research topics of these projects range from animal husbandry from historiographic studies of Montenegrin eco- population to cattle breeding and production of more productive types of sheep and cattle and from the study of milk quality and technology of indigenous dairy products to standardization and protection based on the origin of important indigenous dairy products of Montenegro.
Some of the projects were international ones such as: “Biotechnical methods in sheep production inactivation” (JFF-685), whose realization (1985-1990) was rated highest by the US experts as a collaborative side.
Dr. Adžić is the author of 6 scientific books from his area. He has published over 120 scientific papers about domestic and international papers. He has, also, published articles in the collections of work which resulted from thematic congress and other scientific and expert congresses.
He is an author and co-author of series of monographs, studies, programs and elaborates on the field of cattle and dairy farming.
He designed production facilities for milk and meat processing and numerous mini farms for all types of cattle for the needs of individual farms.
Other activities:
Doctor Adžić was named an expert in the field of cattle and dairy farming by several different institutions and State authorities including the Federal Ministry of Science, Development and the Environment. He also did inspection work for the evaluation of teaching staff in secondary vocational schools in the field of Agriculture in the territory of Montenegro. He was the editor or member of the editorial boards of several journals and proceedings of scientific and professional conferences in the field of Agriculture. Adžić has been a member of numerous scientific and professional committees. Some of them are from the Publishing Committee of the University of Montenegro and the Oktoih Award Commission. He is one of the two coordinators on a long-term multidisciplinary project on “Piva and the people of Piva”.
Doctor Adžić has given a special contribution to the education and training of young scientists at the Biotechnical Institution and the education of the students from the Biotechnical Faculty.
Special Awards:
For his rich and diverse scientific research, engineering and educational work, and for the successful application of science in practice, Dr. Adžić has received several national and professional recognition and honors among which the Order of Merit to the Nation with Silver Rays.
